University Transition ProgramUniversity Transition Program (UTP) is a tri-institutional partnership program by the BC Ministry of Education, Vancouver School Board, and the University of British Columbia (UBC). UTP supports BC adolescents who seek academic challenge to achieve their dreams of early entrance to university studies at UBC.

Our Mission

The University Transition Program values diversity, equity, and inclusion. Together with the University of British Columbia, the BC Ministry of Education and the Vancouver School Board, the University Transition Program is committed to the guiding principles of excellence, integrity, mutual respect, inclusion, and transparency. Program staff, students, parents, and alumni are working to create a kind, respectful, empathetic, safe, and inclusive space where students are inspired and thrive. The University Transition Program is committed to uphold these core values and will continue to engage the community in dialogue and action.

Gratitude

We acknowledge that the land upon which we learn is the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam) People.

We celebrate the Vancouver School Board, the BC Ministry of Education, and the University of British Columbia whose visionary leadership established a Tri-Institutional Partnership to support BC adolescents seeking academic challenge to achieve their dreams of early entrance to university studies.

Our Story

Academic Acceleration as a Path to Future Success

Since 1993, The University Transition Program enrolls 20 new BC students ages 13-15 seeking academic enrichment in a two-year preparation for early entrance to university studies every year.  The conceptually advanced, rigorous, fast-paced curriculum promotes high standards of academic excellence, a strong work ethic, and research skills and study habits needed to support success in university studies and future careers. A strong community composed of dedicated students, parents, staff, program graduates, and UBC professors cultivates a pre-university culture of collaboration, leadership, and respect for self and one another.  The program’s distinctive learning environment combines accelerated learning and educational innovation to optimize talent development while addressing the educational, developmental and socio-emotional needs of all members of the community.  Unique in BC and Canada the University Transition Program continues to welcome visitors from all over the world.
